Buying a franchise involves the vendor, the franchisor and often a landlord, each with their own timetable. When the settlement date arrives before your bank's franchise finance does, we can fund the purchase in as little as 24 hours.

We fund franchise purchases across Australia, for new franchises and transfers of existing ones, from $250,000 to $10 million. The loan is secured by property you own. The franchise, the franchise agreement and the lease are never the security. The money can pay the purchase price, the franchise and transfer fees, and the costs of assigning the lease.

Franchising Code timeframes

The Franchising Code of Conduct, in its current form since 1 April 2025, sets several timeframes that affect settlement:

  • •For a new franchise, the franchisor must give you the disclosure document at least 14 days before the agreement is signed
  • •For a transfer of an existing franchise, the franchisor must not consent until 14 days after giving you the required documents
  • •If the franchisor has not refused a transfer in writing within 42 days of the request, or of receiving the last information it asked for, whichever is later, it is taken to have consented
  • •A new franchise agreement has a 14-day cooling-off period after signing
  • •The franchisor may reasonably refuse consent if the buyer is unlikely to meet the financial obligations of the agreement

Your lawyer should advise on the Code and your agreement. We time the loan to the settlement date that follows the franchisor's consent.

When franchise buyers call us

  • •The franchisor has asked for evidence of funds before it will consent
  • •The sale contract with the outgoing franchisee has a settlement date the bank cannot meet
  • •The franchisor requires a refit or upgrade at transfer
  • •Stock, training and transfer fees fall due at takeover
  • •The bank's approval depends on documents that will not arrive before settlement

Costs the loan can include

  • •The purchase price, including goodwill
  • •The franchise fee and transfer fee
  • •A refit required by the franchisor
  • •Opening stock and working capital
  • •Legal and accounting costs

Settling a franchise purchase

  1. Enquiry. Send us the sale contract, the franchisor's timetable and the property you can offer. An indicative offer can be ready the same day.

  2. Evidence of funds. Where the franchisor asks, we can confirm our indicative terms in writing. They are indicative terms, not a loan approval, and the letter says so.

  3. Letter of offer. After you accept, the letter of offer is issued.

  4. Settlement. Settlement can follow within 24 hours of signing.

Paperwork the franchise loan needs

  • •The sale contract, or the new franchise agreement
  • •The franchisor's disclosure document and any conditions of consent
  • •The lease, or the lease assignment
  • •The property you can offer
  • •Your plan for long-term finance

Refinancing after settlement

Franchise buyers usually repay us with bank franchise or business finance once the transfer is complete and the bank has the franchisor's consent and the signed lease. Some repay from the sale of a property. Where the outgoing franchisee agrees to take part of the price later, that reduces the amount you need to borrow.

“A franchise purchase has four sets of paperwork running at once: the sale contract, the franchisor's consent, the lease assignment and the bank's approval. We can have the loan ready while the franchisor and the landlord finish theirs. Send us the franchisor's timetable with your enquiry, and we will set the settlement date from it.”

Frequently Asked Questions

For a new franchise, the franchisor must give you its disclosure document at least 14 days before the agreement is signed. Build that period into your settlement date, and we will time the funds to match.

Yes. Once we have assessed the property you are offering, we can confirm our indicative terms in writing for the franchisor. They are indicative terms, not a loan approval, and the letter says so.

No. The loan is secured by real property you own, such as your home or an investment property. The franchise, the agreement and the lease are what the money buys.

Yes. A refit required by the franchisor, transfer and training fees, and opening stock can all be included, within 70% of the property value. Send the franchisor's refit requirements with your enquiry.

Under the Code, if the franchisor has not refused in writing within 42 days of your request, or of the last information it asked for, whichever is later, it is taken to have consented. It can revoke consent within 14 days of giving it. Your lawyer can confirm the dates for your transfer.

A cooling-off period does not apply to every transfer of an existing franchise. A new franchise agreement has a 14-day cooling-off period after signing. Your lawyer can tell you whether it applies to yours before you settle.

Funds can be ready on the same day, depending on your scenario. The franchisor's consent and the lease assignment usually set the settlement date, so we can arrange the loan while those steps are in progress.

Yes. Retail, food and hospitality franchisees can need cash for stock, staff or a refit after they take over. We lend for working capital across retail, hospitality and our other industries.
